Jeff the brave student

I can relate this guy right here. In high school i also had teachers that did not know how to interact with students so we could understand the class better. The teacher didn't really seem to have a respond back when the student was pointing out the obvious. You simply can not learn from only doing packets from my experience. When students only do packets they start to lose focus in the class because they think is boring. We want students to be able to connect with teachers so they can help each other so the teacher can find a way to connect the knowledge into the students brain.

I have seen that teachers don't like it when the students corrects them because they are suppose to be the brighter one. I had one teacher at Chabot that i corrected and she simply responded with "Well my degree speaks for itself" i was only saying what the textbook had and she got defensive. When teacher don't learn from the students then they might start a conflict. I'm pretty sure that the relationship between Jeff and the teacher was not the same after this day. If we can just learn from each other and make class interesting then more students would be involve.

Deal Breakers

For me some of the deal breakers in high school and community college was doing the homework on time. I would always wait to the last minute to do the homework, but i would finish them for the most part. Still to this day i do the homework in the last minute but not as often. My excuse in high school was that i was playing sports, and i would be too tired to do the homework. My senior year when the second semesters grade came out i didn't have a GPA of 2.0 which meant i couldn't finish out the last for games of the seasons plus play-offs, but one of my teachers change my grade because she knew how important was to bring the title back to our school. That doesn't happen very often, and college i had surgeries that kept me out for a long time. When i was in class i was always satisfied with a C, but i changed and I'm trying to raise my GPA up.

Another deal breaker is that some teachers also don't help the students. They expect us students to already know the subject. I had teachers where if you ask a question the teacher would say is in your book and would not answer. I understand that we have to read, but when you don't understand how to answer we need teachers to help us. We need to be able to rely on our teachers to teach us the subject properly. Like in the film The Passion Project it says"Really a lot of teachers think that the content is enough. Like is not enough. Because i don't understand it"(Karina,7) and when we need guidance we need our teachers to help us so we can understand what is going on in class and not get behind. A lot of students drop out when they get behind in class as i have as well. But I've learn from the past and learn to stick with the choices i made. I also try to get information about the teacher before i sign up so i have an idea of how the teacher is like.

Giving back to mother Earth

As I got older I always lived Iin apartments. I was never able to grow anything and see how plants or fruits grow. Now that I live in a house I planted a tomato plant, strawberries, and roses. Its great to be able to water and see how they sprouted. I have pictures of my tomato plant in different stages. Now it has about 6 tomatoes that have popped out. I have a big back yard and have a lot of space to plant more things. I am going to plant a tree and some more fruits so I can stop buying fruits from the store. I'm trying to give earth more oxygen as I'm planting a tree. I am also going to build a wishing pond with my step dad so we can also chillax in the back yard. The roses make the front yard look pretty nice. There are others that are starting to open. It feels great to give back to mother earth.

P. REIGN "ANGELS" OFFICIAL VIDEO

We always come together when we have a victim that was killed. We don't have to wait till a bad event happens to come together as one community. If we all work together to fix our communities and look out for one another instead killing each other, then we would be in a happier environment. Families are very important in this life and when one member of the family dies it breaks people hearts. When one of the member is murder the pain is even worse because they will feel guilt not preventing it and also will want revenge in some cases. When someone goes to look for revenge it doesn't satisfied no one because now there is two people dead, and who knows a third or fourth might come around. We need to stop violence and just keep peace.

Andrade Video Response

They are a lot of factors why teenagers face trauma in today's world. I agree with Andrade that teenagers face trauma more than soldiers in today's world. Well, most teenagers that live in a neighborhood where there is a lot of crime like in certain parts of Oakland, CA do. A lot of school that are in a bad neighborhood are badly damage with hardly no funds. How can students be motivated to go to school when the environment is poorly. They are some students that still manage to succeed in this kinds of environments. They are the ones that are breaking through the concrete. They are the roses as Andrade describes them.We need more roses breaking through the sun light and eventually become a garden of roses.

When kids are brought up in the hood that is all they see, and in there eyes is okay to do. Is up to the parents to raise their child right to help them grow to be the best they can be. We all do have the strength to prevail any situation we just need that extra boost of motivation sometimes to get us through. If we all work together as a community we can make the streets better for the youth. We need to not only motivate the students, but also bring the passion back to the teachers. If the teachers and staff are motivated to do better in school, then the students will also be motivated to go to a good environment to learn.

We all just want to be living in a good neighborhood where there is peace. We want to see our kids grow up and be successful in life, but a lot of teenagers that live in a bad neighborhood don't make it into their late twenties. The youth needs a chance in life to becomes some one in the world. when they are surrounded by crime, rape, and robbery that's all they are going to think is appropriate. Sometimes we just have that anger that we need to release, but we need to be able to control it. in the book New Earth it says there is no one who wants peace, yet there is something else in you that wants drama, want the conflict"(Tolle, 77) We have that inner anger that sometimes gets loose, and afterwards regret the damage the anger has cost. If we raise our kids properly they can learn that violence is not the answer.

1. I see some school building new stadiums for their sports events. How do schools fund building a stadium, but can't buy new text books or provide better equipment for teachers?

2.Are there any ways that we can encourage more students to go to school all over the country?

3.How can we get parents more involve ? How can we help our  kids to stay out of trouble and be more involve with sports, school clubs, after school programs, etc.?

Why drop out?

They are many reason why students drop out of school. one reason why students drop out is because of the time. after a few weeks of school they can't seem to manage to finish their homework on time. A lot of students work when they go to school and as school progresses it gets hard for students to fit everything in their schedule. It get's hard for them to focus their attention to school work because they are either too tired or have something else in mind like family. Other students not only work and go to school, but are also parents. They have to fit everything in their schedule and that goes back into why some students drop is because they simply do not have enough time. They are trying to do everything they can to have a better life, but when there is a lot of things going around it is hard to stay focus on school.

Connection between poverty and passion.

As we were discussing in class, i believe that if you don't have much as a child you tend to appreciate the little things more then a person who has everything as a child. We spoil our kids and when they get older they get use to that feeling of being spoiled. When a person is used to being able to get what ever they want they have a different view of the world then a person who works hard everyday to feed his family. I feel that you are more passionate about family if you have less because with money there is greed. When some one is poor they don't have much to grow up with. I was not poor, but i didn't have the best things growing up. My mom worked hard for me and now that i am older i work hard for her.

We all have passion within us. It just takes the right thing to show us what that is. People have different passion. I believe that the people that don't have much are closer to their families because family is all they got. I also think some families that don't have much are much happier then some families that have a lot of money to spare. We all want to be happy and if we are happy then it rubs off to other like in the book The Powers of Giving says "And then that act of charity which has begun at home, extends to everyone you meet in the world outside your home"(Jamal & McKinnon, 114) We want to be happy and when we are happy we also have passion.

Passion

During the film there was stuff that i agree too but also disagree too. i feel like a person should always have confidence in themselves. What i felt like was that the student in the movie The Passions Project they didn't seem to be confident till after high school. some said they didn't know what to do or was being force to follow a certain path, but i never felt that way. We learn from our mistakes and i think they were scared to fail at something. I also agree that in order to take greater risks is if they are in a comfortable environment. also that is not only the teachers responsibility in the class but also the students. Teacher do not want to go in a class where the students don't care and are only there because they are force too be in school. teachers will start to get irritated and lose their passion with teaching, and that is one reason why some teacher don't care about their students. Once a person losses their passion is hard to gain it back.
