Andrade Video Response

They are a lot of factors why teenagers face trauma in today's world. I agree with Andrade that teenagers face trauma more than soldiers in today's world. Well, most teenagers that live in a neighborhood where there is a lot of crime like in certain parts of Oakland, CA do. A lot of school that are in a bad neighborhood are badly damage with hardly no funds. How can students be motivated to go to school when the environment is poorly. They are some students that still manage to succeed in this kinds of environments. They are the ones that are breaking through the concrete. They are the roses as Andrade describes them.We need more roses breaking through the sun light and eventually become a garden of roses.

When kids are brought up in the hood that is all they see, and in there eyes is okay to do. Is up to the parents to raise their child right to help them grow to be the best they can be. We all do have the strength to prevail any situation we just need that extra boost of motivation sometimes to get us through. If we all work together as a community we can make the streets better for the youth. We need to not only motivate the students, but also bring the passion back to the teachers. If the teachers and staff are motivated to do better in school, then the students will also be motivated to go to a good environment to learn.

We all just want to be living in a good neighborhood where there is peace. We want to see our kids grow up and be successful in life, but a lot of teenagers that live in a bad neighborhood don't make it into their late twenties. The youth needs a chance in life to becomes some one in the world. when they are surrounded by crime, rape, and robbery that's all they are going to think is appropriate. Sometimes we just have that anger that we need to release, but we need to be able to control it. in the book New Earth it says there is no one who wants peace, yet there is something else in you that wants drama, want the conflict"(Tolle, 77) We have that inner anger that sometimes gets loose, and afterwards regret the damage the anger has cost. If we raise our kids properly they can learn that violence is not the answer.

1. I see some school building new stadiums for their sports events. How do schools fund building a stadium, but can't buy new text books or provide better equipment for teachers?

2.Are there any ways that we can encourage more students to go to school all over the country?

3.How can we get parents more involve ? How can we help our  kids to stay out of trouble and be more involve with sports, school clubs, after school programs, etc.?

  1. I agree that the community needs to play a bigger role in making the streets better for the youth of Oakland. Not only the Oakland community but also the neighboring ones should be helping solve these issues so that the violence doesn't spill over.

  2. You have good questions. Another one that comes to mind is why is it always just about the test scores? Most teachers aren't concerned with their students environment they just think the should be able to regurgitate what there taught and produce good test scores.
